Organizing for the family you work with

Here are five helpful tips about how to organize for the family you work with.

1. Always ask before you organize anything!
Communication is really important when it comes to organizing others' homes and things. Some people are very particular about where things go and how things are organized. Always have a conversation with your employer before you tackle any project.

2. Keep safety in mind.
Depending on the age range of your charges, you will want to be aware of the safety concerns when organizing and putting things away. For example, if there are young children in the home, you will want to make sure any choking hazards are out of reach, and that all doors, drawers, and cabinets have the appropriate latches on them.

3. If their are children in the home, organize things from their point of view.
Make sure to put their favorite toys or games at their eye level so it will be easy for them to find and take out to play with. By making things easily accessible for the children, it will cut down on the mess and help them learn where things go and how to put things away.

4. Be careful about throwing things away!
There can be things they may not look important, but need to be saved for legal, financial or personal reasons. If you are unsure about something, create three boxes: Save, Throw Away, and Not Sure. Also, be sure to always shred paperwork rather than toss it directly into the trash.

5. Use containers and labels.
This makes the organizing easier and keeps the space organized longer.
