Town & Country Resources

Q. What is a Summer Nanny?
A. Summer vacation can present challenges for many families with school-aged children. It can be difficult to decide which activities to participate in and how to piece it all together so that everyone in the family can have a fun, enjoyable and well balanced summer! A Summer Nanny will work with your family for the entire summer break and can accompany your child to sports and social activities, tutor your child in academic areas that might need a little extra attention, visit local museums and other points of interest, travel with the family if needed, and give your child time to relax at home before the next school year begins. Our Summer Nanny program is for children three years old and up.

Q. How does Town & Country screen candidates?
A. The candidates you meet through us will have completed a detailed, ten-page application in our office and been through a thorough interview with our Placement Counselors. In addition to checking the candidates’ references, we also verify their documents and conduct several background checks including a driving record check, Social Security scan and a criminal background check.

Q. What does a Summer Nanny charge?
A. Based upon their background, direct experience and the overall job requirements, Summer Nannies typically charge $18 - $22 per hour.

Q. Do I pay the candidate directly?
A. Yes, you will pay the candidate their wages directly. The candidate’s wages are separate from the agency fees.

Q. What agency fees can I expect?
A. There is a one-time $150 Registration Fee that will allow you lifetime access to our pool of qualified candidates. In addition to the Registration Fee, if we successfully place a Nanny in your home for more than 20 hours per week during the summer, a flat Referral Fee of $1,000 is due to the agency. For purposes of the Summer Nanny program, we consider the summer to be from early June through early September. Additionally the Summer Nanny program is for children that are 3 years old and up. The Referral Fee is due when a candidate is confirmed for the summer assignment.

Q. What is your cancellation policy?
A. If the assignment is cancelled after a candidate is confirmed, the full Summer Nanny Referral Fee is due.

Q. What if I want to keep my Summer Nanny beyond the summer?
A. If you choose to hire a Summer Nanny candidate on a permanent basis, your Placement Counselor will be happy to review the permanent fee structure with you. The Summer Nanny referral fee does not apply toward a permanent referral fee.

Q. Do I need to be concerned about payroll taxes?
A. When you hire a candidate through Town & Country, the candidate is considered your household employee, not an independent contractor or an employee of the agency; therefore, you are required to withhold and report payroll taxes to the state and the IRS. While Town & Country is not directly involved in any tax filings or reporting, we are knowledgeable about the subject and happy to answer any questions you may have.

Q. What else do I need to know about Summer Nannies?
A. By signing an agreement with Town & Country, you agree to not share the name or contact information of any candidates referred by the agency with your friends or associates. If you contact a candidate referred by Town & Country for future assignments, you are required to report the hours and pay the appropriate placement fee.

Q. What is the next step?
A. Our Town & Country Temporary Department maintains an extensive pool of professional candidates to assist you with your household needs. Once we have the details of the assignment and a signed referral agreement, we will begin your search.

We look forward to assisting you with your search for a qualified Summer Nanny. Call us during our business hours, Monday - Friday 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific Standard Time, to talk with one of our trained Placement Counselors or to arrange a personal meeting at one of our Bay Area offices.

Find a On-Call Temporary Nanny
"Our Temporary Nanny is great! She got there early, she was totally professional, asked all the right questions, and jumped right in with the kids who really responded positively... That's exactly the kind of response you hope to get from a Nanny, and makes a parent feel like the kids are in good hands. Thanks!" -Jeremy
