Sick Policy FAQ’s

If I am sick and do not have any PTO left, will I need to go to work sick or will I receive an excused absence?

We absolutely do not want you to work while you are sick – as that puts you and the families we work with at risk. However, we also rely on you to support our families in need and have our sick policy in place to support that cause. IF you do not have PTO left, you will receive an unexcused absence. The first unexcused absence is considered a first warning, the second is a final warning and the 3rd is separation of employment. Please note that if you encounter a long term health challenge, we will work with you on a one off basis to ensure we’re aligned on the best path forward.

If I get sick from a family I worked with through BUC and have to backout from a shift, will I need to submit PTO in order for my backout to be considered excused?

Given the nature of caregiving, there is always a chance you catch something from families on the job. However, we also have policies in place to prevent families from partaking in care if a child or family member is too ill. We will continue to push that policy forward with families to protect you along the way. If a family does appear too sick when you arrive to their home, you will NOT be penalized for backing out of that job.  That said, if you do catch something from a family or from someone else in your life, and you have to back out from a shift, you still need to submit sick time for it to be excused – otherwise this will be considered unexcused. This comes into play for all backouts of already booked jobs.

Does a doctors note cover a backout or do I need to submit PTO to cover it?

To ensure our team is up to date, we do ask that you submit PTO for any time off you require – for both vacations and sick time.

Will T+C let me know how many excused or unexcused backouts I have or do I need to track it on my own?

Town + Country will be tracking and updating caregivers of any infractions and backouts as we document them. You can also review your time off balance in Workday.

Does this apply to all jobs that I take?

These benefits only apply to Backup Care jobs. They do NOT apply to T+C family-paid jobs.
